  • 1 cup brown sugar (packed, for filling)
  • 2 tbsp ground cinnamon (for filling)
  • 1/2 tsp salt (for filling)
  • 8 oz cream cheese (for frosting, softened)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (for frosting, softened)
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar (for frosting)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • Pinch of salt (for frosting)

Instructions

  1. Warm the milk and water until lukewarm. Combine with yeast in a stand mixer and let sit for 5 minutes.
  2. In another bowl, mix flour, sugar, cocoa powder, and salt. Gradually add to the yeast mixture and combine.
  3. Add butter, eggs, red food coloring, and vanilla; mix until smooth. Knead for about 5–7 minutes until elastic.
  4. Let rise in a greased bowl covered with plastic wrap for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Prepare the filling by mixing softened butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
  6. Roll out the dough into a rectangle on a floured surface; spread filling evenly over it.
  7. Roll tightly from one end to form a log and cut into equal pieces.
  8. Place on a lined baking sheet; cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  9. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for about 25 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Prepare frosting by beating cream cheese and butter; gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla.
