  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
  • 1 cup packed dark brown sugar
  • 1 large egg, at room temperature
  • 1/3 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon maple extract
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/3 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 cup sifted confectioners’ sugar
  • pinch salt, to taste

Instructions

  1. Whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt in a medium bowl; set aside.
  2. Cream softened butter and dark brown sugar using a stand mixer until smooth. Beat in the egg and then mix in maple syrup, vanilla extract, and maple extract until combined.
  3. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet mixture on low speed; mix until just combined. Fold in chopped pecans.
  4. Chill dough for at least 2 hours.
  5. Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  6. Roll dough into balls (about 1.5 tablespoons each) and place on prepared sheets.
  7. Bake for 12–13 minutes until edges are lightly browned; centers should remain soft.
  8. Cool on wire racks before drizzling with maple icing.
