Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (177°C) and prepare three 6-inch cake tins by greasing them with butter and lining them with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the cake flour, salt, baking powder, and baking soda. Set aside.
  3. In another bowl, mix the milk, sour cream, and vanilla extract. Set aside.
  4. In a stand mixer, beat the butter and sugar until creamy, then gradually add egg whites while mixing.
  5. Alternate adding dry ingredients and milk mixture until just combined; gently fold with a rubber spatula.
  6. Divide the batter evenly among the prepared pans and bake for 30–35 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Allow cakes to cool before frosting.
